The WHO Malaria Policy Advisory Group released a statement calling for urgent action to address the increase in prevalence of pfhrp2/3 deletions in all endemic countries, and particularly in the Horn of Africa.

The MESA Alliance organized a virtual forum to raise awareness and facilitate information sharing among malaria stakeholders involved in the fight against this biological threat.

PANELISTS:

  • Dionicia Gamboa – Head of the Malaria Laboratory (Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Peru)
  • Selam Mihreteab – Manager of the National Malaria Control Programme (Ministry of Health, Eritrea)
  • Jane Cunningham – Medical Officer, Global Malaria Programme (WHO)
  • Eric Rogier – Microbiologist, Malaria Branch (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA)

FORUM MATERIALS:

*IMPORTANT: Please note that the WHO “Surveillance template protocols for pfhrp2/pfhrp3 gene deletions” and the WHO “Response plan to pfhrp2 gene deletions” are being updated (see corrigenda  – January 2023), so the answers related to the ‘WHO protocol templates’ in pages 4-5 of this Q&A document may not be fully up-to-date.
