Use of Geospatial Data and Technologies for Improved Immunisation Coverage and Equity

In order to achieve measurable improvements in the availability, quality, use and transparency of data and enable countries to use data to improve immunization coverage and equity, UNICEF, with support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is supporting countries in the use of geospatial data and technologies to improve planning and monitoring for equitable provision of immunization services.

A capacity building exercise was conducted between January-May 2018 in collaboration with the Kenyan Ministry of Health, and specifically with the National Vaccination and Immunization Program (NVIP), to strengthen the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in support of national and subnational mapping of immunization coverage, target population and geographic accessibility to immunization services for improved immunization coverage and equity in Kenya. The activities included a technical stakeholder inception meeting (February 2018), a data gathering and preparation phase (February-May 2018) and a capacity building workshop in Machakos (May 2018). This workshop was held from 14th to 20th of May, 2018.
