Costs & Coverage of Malaria Control

The 32nd edition of the masterclass hosted by Fredros Okumu from Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) and Sheila Ogoma from Clinton Health Access Initiative(CHAI) features Profs. Hannah Koenker, Joshua Yukich & Marcy Erskine.

The session delves into cost and cost effectiveness of large scale malaria control with nets, drugs and diagnostics with a focus on moving towards universal coverage i.e. distribution methods, access, coverage and study. The experts explore gaps in coverage, access and duration of protection and the role human behaviour, user preferences and effective health communication plays in malaria control. Furthermore, the discussion proceeds towards the importance of effective surveillance: the costs and consequences. The need for use of local data to inform local decisions and need for targeted interventions to move away from a ¨one-size-fits-all¨ approach and finally traverses alternative intervention measures to ensure a better cost effectiveness ratio.
