Communication and Community Engagement

Learn about different types of communication and strategies for community engagement.

Both communication and community engagement can impact the demand for immunization. For example, children do not get vaccinated if caregivers do not know when children need to be immunized, where vaccines are available, the appropriate series of vaccines to be followed, as well as the safety and efficacy of vaccination.

Ongoing communication will help you learn what community leaders and caregivers know and feel about immunization services. This can help to address barriers and meet needs, which in turn can improve outcomes in your community. Engaging with the community and incorporating their input and feedback into the immunization program also helps to build a sense of ownership.

In this module, you will learn about different types of communication and strategies for community engagement. You will practice addressing challenges through communication and learn about incorporating communication planning into the overall planning process.
