ALMA Scorecards for Accountability and Action

Published: 19/09/2011

The ALMA Scorecard for Accountability and Action was created to strengthen tracking and accountability in the fight against malaria. The scorecard and its accompanying reports monitor country-level progress, highlight health system gaps, and enable comparisons across African nations, making them essential tools for governments, ministries of health, and partners to drive action.

National malaria scorecards are country-owned and based on priority indicators from national strategic plans. They guide decision-makers in taking data-driven actions to address upsurges, stock-outs, and resource gaps. Over time, the scorecard has expanded to include indicators for reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH), as well as neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Three complementary components are produced quarterly by the ALMA Secretariat:

  • The scorecard, which displays country-level performance against key malaria, NTDs and RMNCAH indicators for 46 malaria-endemic countries in Africa.
  • An overview report summarising the status of malaria and highlighting emerging challenges and successes.
  • Country quarterly reports which provide a summary of performance for each country and document and track recommended actions to address identified bottlenecks.
