Zoonotic malaria: Study of the potential for transmission of infection by Plasmodium spp from neotropical primates to humans
Objectives
*Original in Portuguese: Malária zoonótica: estudo do potencial de transmissão da infecção por plasmodium spp de primatas neotropicais para humanos
In this project, the potential for transmission of infection by Plasmodium simium and P. brasilianum will be assessed through the detection and quantification of transcripts of gametocyte-specific genes. Different species of non-human primates will be evaluated to identify which ones have the potential to transmit the infection.
