Synthesis of glycoglycero heterocycles and antimalarial and antimicrobial evaluation
Objectives
This project will develop synthetic methodologies that provide hybrids of carbohydrates with heterocycles. In this proposal molecules will be prepared and evaluated biologically against malaria and resistant bacteria.
Organic synthesis strategies will be addressed to obtain carbohydrate hybrids with potential biological activity. Relying on renewable resources, such as glycerol and D-glucose, dozens of new compounds with bioactive potential will be synthesized. Glycerol carbonate is a key strategy in glycerol recovery. Recent research results have shown different structural modifications through the reactive potential of this molecule. This improvement made it possible to explore the formation of glyco-glycerol conjugates and address new functionalization studies. The additional incorporation of a function such as triazole and oxazole nuclei, and nucleic bases, is based on the fact that a notable amount of bioactive compounds have glyco-ho of molecules aiming biological applications against the parasite that causes malaria (Plasmodium), heterocycles in its composition.
