Strengthening data & modeling capacity in malaria endemic countries
Objectives
There is a need to establish a sustainable multidisciplinary team consisting of i) modelers to develop models and support machine learning related projects, ii) data managers and analysts to handle data management and perform advanced data analysis, and iii) software programmers to develop GUIs to support model applications and support the strengthening, development and integration of malaria surveillance systems.
An increasing number of key organizations including World Health Organization (WHO), national malaria control/elimination programs and funding partners are realizing the role that mathematical modelling can play in malaria control/elimination planning and decision making. The development of such models requires well trained individuals who can work closely with field-based scientists (e.g., ecologists, entomologists, epidemiologists) and practitioners such as National Malaria Control Programs (NMCPs) and other key stakeholders – to ensure that the models will have the required practical impact.
