Phase 2: Malaria Vaccine Implementation Program
Objectives
The aim of this project is to evaluate the safety, feasibility, and impact of the RTS,S/AS01 as it is implemented at scale by the routine immunization programs in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi.
Following the 2016 WHO recommendation for pilot implementation of RTS,S/AS01, the MVIP was designed to address outstanding questions related to the public health use of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine. Specifically, the MVIP will assess the feasibility of administering the required four doses of the vaccine in children; the vaccine’s role in reducing childhood deaths; and its safety in the context of routine use. Data and information derived from the MVIP will inform a WHO policy recommendation on the broader use of the vaccine.
