Novel antigen discovery to eradicate malaria
Objectives
This project proposes a proof-of-principle study to discover new antigens and advance next-generation malaria vaccines.
Malaria causes more than 600,000 deaths yearly in low and middle-income countries, mostly among young children and pregnant women. Vaccines targeting the early parasite stage by induction of antibodies show promising results to prevent short-term disease, but protection is neither complete nor long-lasting. Although T-cell mediated immunity can confer full protection in humans, the antigens responsible for this protection have not been identified.
