Modelling the control of artemisinin-based antimalarial drug resistance

Objectives

This project seeks to develop epidemiological models to simulate the potential spread of artemisinin resistance and to contrast the effect of proposed control and containment strategies. The aims are:

1. To better understand the relative importance of different epidemiological and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic drivers of artemisinin resistance;

2. To model the major proposed control measures for containing or slowing the spread of artemisinin resistance, including improved patient adherence to treatment, addition of primaquine to current regimens and introducing multiple first line therapies.
