Rationale and Abstract
Malaria killed half a million people in 2019. While ~60 vaccines exist against viral or bacterial diseases, no effective vaccines exist against malaria-causing parasites. Immunity to malaria can be mediated by antibodies. This depends on immune cells called B- and T-cells, conducting a choreographed series of interactions in immune organs. This process appears defective in malaria for reasons unknown. This project will determine these reasons, and provide new ways for boosting immunity to malaria.
