Fate and fidelity of T cell memory during repeated malaria infection
Objectives
This project will define the impact of re-infections on T cells in children in a malaria-endemic region as well as in experimental models.

Rationale and Abstract
Children rarely develop immunity to malaria after a first infection, leaving them susceptible to severe disease during each subsequent infection. Although immune cells called T cells can protect against malaria, it is not well understood how well they function during re-infection. The data geerated via this study may assist in devising new ways to prevent children from dying with severe malaria.
