Evaluating the impact of the combination of currently available vector control tools on mosquito behavior and mortality in the Ethiopian context
Objectives
The main research questions to be answered in part by this trial are:
1) Do PBO nets provide additional control of mosquitoes over standard nets when used in combination with IRS?
2) Do PBO nets provide a higher level of control than standard nets + IRS?
3) Do PBO nets provide a higher level of control than standard nets in an area of high pyrethroid resistance?
Answers to these questions will be provided by the results from the experimental hut trial. While aspects related to malaria transmission can only be assessed in field conditions, the experimental hut trial will provide important information on the mosquito behavioral variables needed to understand how PBO nets and IRS can control resistant Anopheles arabiensis in Ethiopia.
