Effect of solvent extracts of some plants on Anopheles stephensi larvae in Ethiopia

Objectives

To examine the effect of solvent extracts of some plants on Anopheles stephensi larvae.

Principal Investigators / Focal Persons

Gedeon Yohannes

Rationale and Abstract

As an adult, An. stephensi is resistant to most insecticides, thus the search for alternative vector control is important. Solvent extracts of some plants are considered to be important for larval control. Larval control for An. stephensi could be suitable as the majority of breeding sites are artificial water containers which can easily be found and are accessible. Since addressing the urban adult vector is challenging, focus will be placed on larval control. If the present study is effective, urban malaria would be easily tackled.
