Discovery of new antimalarials with a novel mechanism of action and irresistible target

Objectives

This proejct focuses on a newly discovered class of molecules that kill malaria parasites through a novel mechanism, with the goal of understanding their action to enhance future development and clinical use.

Rationale and Abstract

Malaria continues to be a major global health challenge and resistance has emerged to all approved antimalarial agents. New medicines are desperately needed to overcome resistance and avoid the potential scenario of untreatable malaria. A new class of molecules has been discovered that kill malaria parasites by a novel, as yet unknown, mechanism. This project will reveal how these molecules kill malaria parasites, facilitating their optimal development and clinical utilisation in the future.
