Design of ellagic acid derivatives as new orally active antimalarial agents
Objectives
Malaria is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with more than 600 000 deaths per year. Ellagic acid was found highly active in-vivo against malaria after intra peritoneal administration (more active than quinine). After the preparation of open-ring analogues of this natural compound, this project will focus on the synthesis and evaluation of non-symmetrical ellagic acid derivatives.
