Analysis of novel artemisinin highly resistant strains of Plasmodium malaria and identification of resistance genes

Objectives

*Original title and abstract were machine translated from Japanese.

The purpose of this research is to elucidate the whole picture of the artemisinin resistance mechanism.

Rationale and Abstract

Artemisinin, which is used in the treatment of Plasmodium falciparum, has been shown to acquire resistance through mutations in the K13 gene. This study succeeded in establishing a strain showing artemisinin resistance without mutation of the K13 gene, so this project will identify a novel artemisinin resistance gene using property analysis and genetic methods.
