Elucidation of the glycolytic regulation mechanism in the erythrocytic stage of malaria parasites
Objectives
This study aims at using various fluorescent probes to investigate the intracellular distribution of metabolites during enzyme aggregate formation, and further identify molecules contained in the enzyme aggregates using a proximal-dependent biotinylation enzyme.
Malaria parasites (erythrocytic stage) that parasitize human red blood cells synthesize ATP mainly through glycolysis. The applicant has reported that glycolytic enzymes of malaria parasites form enzyme aggregates, but little is known about their function and formation mechanism. The findings obtained in this study will not only lead to an understanding of the control mechanism of energy metabolism in malaria parasites, but are also expected to be applied to research on the development of antimalarial drugs with new mechanisms of action.
