Supporting Uganda’s malaria reduction and elimination strategy II (SUMRES II)
Objectives
Through the Supporting Uganda’s Malaria Reduction and Elimination Strategy II (SUMRES II) project, Malaria Consortium is implementing a series of interventions to reduce malaria cases and deaths: iCCM, capacity strengthening of private health facilities, surveillance and health systems strengthening, and social and behaviour change communication. SUMRES II builds on the gains made during the previous project cycle, SUMRES (2021–2023). Key objectives:
- Accelerate access to malaria preventive and curative services.
- Strengthen the quality of malaria management and data reporting by private health facilities.
- Increase access to artemisinin-based combination therapy for children aged two months to five years with a confirmed malaria diagnosis.
- Increase the proportion of pregnant women who receive three or more doses of intermittent preventive treatment for malaria when they attend an antenatal clinic.
- Improve knowledge on malaria prevention, control and management.

The project will be delivered in 12 districts of Lango and Acholi, covering a population of 3.4 million people. This includes 170,149 pregnant women and 602,327 children under five, who are most at risk of developing severe malaria, with particular emphasis on reaching those living in hard-to-reach areas.
