Synthesis of Glycoglyceroheterocycles and Antimalarial and Antimicrobial Evaluation

Objectives

*Original title in Portuguese: Síntese de Glicoglicero-heterociclos e Avaliação Antimalarial e Antimicrobiana

The project aims to develop new compounds by exploring glyco-glycerol conjugates and incorporating heterocycles, targeting biological applications against malaria and resistant bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Rationale and Abstract

In this proposal molecules will be prepared and evaluated biologically against malaria and resistant bacteria. Organic synthesis strategies will be addressed to obtain carbohydrate hybrids with potential biological activity. Relying on renewable resources, such as glycerol and D-glucose, dozens of new compounds with bioactive potential will be synthesized. Glycerol carbonate is a key strategy in glycerol recovery. Recent research results have shown different structural modifications through the reactive potential of this molecule. This improvement made it possible to explore the formation of glyco-glycerol conjugates and address new functionalization studies. This project will develop synthetic methodologies that provide hybrids of carbohydrates with heterocycles. The additional incorporation of a function such as triazole and oxazole nuclei, and nucleic bases, is based on the fact that a notable amount of bioactive compounds have glyco-ho of molecules aiming biological applications against the parasite that causes malaria (plasmodium), heterocycles in its composition. The synthetic strategy aims to develop molecules aimed at biological applications, in addition to combating infection due to Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and resistant bacteria.
