Sustaining the Malaria Gains

The 31st edition of the masterclass hosted by Fredros Okumu from Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) and Sheila Ogoma from Clinton Health Access Initiative(CHAI) features Profs. Thomas Churcher & Ellie Sherrard Smith from Imperial College, UK.

The discourse starts off with talks about strategization and combination interventions and modelling in malaria elimination and eradication; to find out a ¨Magic mix¨ and select the best combinations of interventions in different contexts possibly through mathmatical modelling. Then it veers into evidence-based vector control; the future of Insecticide treated nets(ITN), Indoor residual spray(IRS) and Larval source management(LSM). Furthermore, anticipating the RTS,S vaccine roll-out, discussion goes on to explore the ways to use other tools together with the vaccine to maximize efforts to eliminate malaria. Transformative approaches and tools for vector control measures specifically outdoor mosquito bitesand measuring the impact of malaria interventions are discussed in detail. Experts provide valuable input on the impact of insecticide on vector control and response strategies. Ultimately, sustaining the malaria control gains and preventing stagnation and rebound are discussed throughly.
