Malaria surveillance, monitoring & evaluation: a reference manual

Pillar 3 of the Global technical strategy for malaria 2016–2030 calls for the transformation of malaria surveillance into a core intervention in all malaria-endemic countries and in those countries that have eliminated malaria but remain susceptible to re-establishment of transmission. This new manual on malaria surveillance, monitoring & evaluation covers subjects that are relevant to both settings.

The aim of this manual is to serve as a reference document for guidance on strengthening malaria surveillance systems for staff in ministries of health, national malaria programmes and health information systems, partners involved in malaria surveillance as well as WHO staff who advise countries on malaria surveillance.

It combines and updates the content of the 2 operational manuals for malaria surveillance published in 2012.
