Study of biologically active compounds in the treatment of dengue, malaria and cutaneous leishmaniasis in a cellular and animal model

There are around 1.4 billion people in the world who live in extreme poverty, with incomes so low that they cannot meet their basic needs. Poverty is intrinsically related to the occurrence of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). In Brazil, there is a clear geographical overlap of NTDs, whose North, Northeast and Midwest regions concentrate most of the cases registered in the country. According to the World Health Organization, there are more than twenty NTDs caused by infectious or parasitic agents, often transmitted by arthropod vectors that multiply in places that lack water supply and basic sanitation. Considering the impacts that NTDs bring to the economy and public health in Brazil and the state of Goiás. The results of this project may help in the elucidation of molecular pathways associated with the health process and development of these NCDs, as well as in promising alternatives for the treatment of such diseases.
