Hijacking enzymes that charge tRNAs: a new strategy for development of anti-malarials
Objectives
This project will investigate the design principles for making bespoke “nukes”, which will have applications in curing malaria, as well as infections with antimicrobial resistant bacteria.

Rationale and Abstract
New drugs are desperately needed to treat drug-resistant pathogens. A class of inhibitor molecules, called “nukes” have been discovered that target enzymes powered by the energy molecule, ATP. “Nukes” induce the enzymes to generate their own inhibitors, via a mechanism that is called “reaction hijacking”.
