Objectives

This sub-project aims at the evaluation of approaches to support malaria programs to identify malaria high risk populations and adapt surveillance and response strategies for malaria elimination.

Rationale and Abstract

As malaria transmission declines, malaria cases cluster in specific subgroup of populations, called high-risk populations, whose behaviors, occupations and socio demographics characteristics place them at higher risk of malaria infection, due to increased exposure to infectious mosquito bites as a consequence of low vector control intervention coverage coupled with frequent outdoor exposure. These populations can contribute to sustaining malaria transmission and threaten elimination efforts. Achieving and maintaining malaria elimination will require the development of targeted interventions tailored to the needs of specific groups.

Study Design

Mixed methods, including formative assessments, case control studies, controlled pre/post trials and entomological assessments.
