Impact evaluation of reactive focal drug administration (rFDA) in northern Senegal

Objectives

The main aim of this sub-project is to evaluate the impact of rFDA on the incidence of malaria transmission in northern Senegal

Principal Institution

PATH, United States

Principal Investigators / Focal Persons

Rationale and Abstract

The Senegalese NMCP has been conducting programmatic rFDA in 10 districts in Northern Senegal since 2016/17. For all malaria cases diagnosed at health facilities or by community health workers, a case documentation and a household visit are conducted. During the household visit, all eligible household members receive an antimalarial treatment (rFDA). To evaluate the impact of rFDA on malaria incidence, a quasi-experimental design, with intervention and comparable comparison districts, will be used. A controlled interrupted time series analysis will be conducted with monthly malaria cases from the routine surveillance system as the dependent variable and adjusting for contextual factors (bednet coverage, rainfall, vegetation index, etc).
