Community Health Worker Characterization

Objectives

The objectives of this sub-project are:

  • Produce a standardized toolkit to guide the development and implementation of efforts to understand community-based volunteer workforces; and
  • Using this toolkit, work with national stakeholders to describe the populations of community-based malaria care providers towards improving program support,

Rationale and Abstract

As malaria elimination programs continue to rely on a community-based, often volunteer, workforce to expand access to malaria care services, it is critical that these programs provide and maintain effective support. This requires a thorough understanding of the needs, challenges, and opportunities facing community workers. Yet, decentralized approaches to program implementation can result in significant knowledge gaps at the national level. This effort aims to develop and implement a harmonized approach within MACEPA of guiding national programs in understanding and supporting community workers.
