Assessment of malaria rapid diagnostic test readers for measuring sub-national test positivity rates and improved data quality

Objectives

Use of automated rapid diagnostic test (RDT) readers has shown to be as good at interpreting RDT results as trained healthcare workers and are void of the biases linked to a desired test outcome.

There are two objectives of this study:

  1. Measure differences between the test positivity rate (TPR) reported by RDT readers and routine surveillance data reported from the Health Management Information System (HMIS).
  2. Explore the potential of malaria RDT readers deployed in sentinel facilities to measure sub-national TPRs and differences between rates from three varied settings.
