Evaluation of extending SMC to ages 5-10 in Kita District, Mali
Objectives
The purpose of this study is to assess changes in malaria incidence and prevalence in children under the age of 10 after one and two years of extending SMC to older age groups.
The study will also thoroughly assess the programmatic feasibility and cost implications of extending these services.
The specific aims of this study are the following:
- To assess the impact on malaria incidence and prevalence among children ages 5-10; and among children 3 months to 10 years in the SMC intervention area.
- To assess the feasibility of reaching high levels of adherence and coverage (75%) of SMC among the target population groups (5-10 years; 3 months to 10 years).
- To conduct a cost analysis of SMC extension to ages 5-10 as compared to the standard protocol of SMC for children under 5 years of age using existing financial records.
