Community Engagement to Build Resilient Health Systems

This course series presents an in-depth exploration of community engagement as a foundational value and function for sustainable community health systems. The course will engage the voices and perspectives of communities themselves, along with the experiences of other stakeholders such as Ministries of Health (MOH), faith-based organizations, NGOs, and academia, supported by case examples demonstrating how community input, collaboration, and leadership has been implemented in practice across contexts.

After this course series, you will be able to:

1. Explain the value and roles that community engagement plays in supporting community health systems.
2. Describe the functions and applications of frameworks and tools that are commonly used to organize and support community engagement processes.
3. Identify the role of different community level actors involved in community engagement and community health activities.
4. Evaluate approaches to scaling up and measuring community engagement .
5. Examine challenges and opportunities for sustaining and evolving community engagement strategies within community health systems.
6. Identify unique considerations and approaches to effective community engagement in crises such as COVID-19, outbreaks such as Ebola, and other insecure and conflict-affected settings.
