Comprehensive functional analysis of novel molecules localized in secretory vesicles of malaria parasite male gametocytes

Objectives

The main aim of this study is to search for proteins adjacent to PyMiGS, a male-specific secretory vesicle molecule by using a proximity-dependent biotin labeling method , and identify a group of molecules localized in male secretory vesicles. Furthermore, this study also aim to elucidate the function of male secretory vesicles in sexual reproduction by creating and analyzing parasites lacking the relevant gene.

Ehime University, Japan

Rationale and Abstract

Specific secretory vesicles exist in the male and female gametocytes of malaria parasites. Male secretory vesicles are expected to play an important role in fertilization, but little has been done to analyze them.
